Years ago, our small community was often overlooked next to its more prominent neighbors of Vancouver and Whistler. However, the secret was told and a few years ago our little logging community became a very hot commodity, and the prices of real estate soared. Even now, they continue to climb and new development is bursting around the area. Clearly, the secret of Squamish has been discovered. It is now a highly desirable residential haven where urban professionals and young families flock. If you ask the locals why they live in Squamish, they will tell you a few great reasons why Squamish is the best place to call home. We compiled our top reasons, do you have any other reasons why you love this growing oceanside mountain community?
Top Reasons Squamish is the Best place to Call Home
The Great Outdoors
Squamish has become known as ‘The Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada.’ If you love the outdoors, then you will have unlimited adventure opportunities right in your backyard. Rock climbing, biking, hiking, skiing, kayaking, fishing, eagle watching, golf, snowshoeing, boating, and SUP are just a few things to do. Every season brings something new and different. Also, in 2014, the Sea to Sky Gondola opened for business granting even greater access to hiking, biking, and winter sports. Arguably this is the top reason people are moving to our community.
Small Town Feel With Easy Access to the Big City
Even though Squamish is growing, it still retains a genuine small-town feel. However, the town’s location is highly accessible along the Sea to Sky Corridor which grants you secure connections to the giants Vancouver and Whistler. It only takes 45 minutes to reach Vancouver, so it is an easy commute for young professionals who still need to work within a large metropolitan city.
Alive With Youth
The population in Squamish is made up of a much younger generation than most small towns. Over half of all residents are under the age of 40. It’s a beautiful place for young families to call home. There are three elementary schools, a middle school, and secondary schools. Also, there are two universities for continued education. The small-town-feel means that the locals get to know each other and build a real sense of community. Families feel safe raising their children in a picturesque location with a virtually non-existent crime rate.
Location Location Location
Squamish is located in the Sea to Sky corridor where the sea meets the mountains. Ideally located between Vancouver and Whistler you can easily access the city or a ski resort…that is if you want to leave Squamish.
