During the summer Squamish is the destination for a number of amazing activities and events. However, we think one event in particular takes the win for best local event of the year. If you are looking for a fun filled event, that embraces the logging history of our community with exciting events all BC long weekend, be sure to check our Squamish Days Logger Sports.
Squamish Days Festival is a 5 day event that celebrates the Squamish logging history and is ‘full of fun, excitement, action and entertainment for the whole family.’ This year loggers sports celebrates 60 years, making it one of the longest running community festivals in BC. Nationally, Squamish Days is one of the biggest lumberjacks’ convention showing off some of the most impressive logging competitions that we have had the pleasure of seeing. The 5 day festival includes two days of Logger sports shows that attracts competitors from all over the world. To get a real connection with the Squamish history and heritage (in a fun-filled lumberjack and jill kind of way), be sure to attend the Squamish Days Logger Sports Festival this BC Day long weekend (August 3 – 7th).
Last week we chatted with Robyn, the volunteer Marketing Manager of Squamish Days to get a true idea of this event’s importance. Robyn has three generations of loggers in her family, and for as long as she can remember, the logging days festival was an annual tradition. From volunteering on grounds, to working the VIP tent, and now managing the marketing, the festival is in her blood. Her passion is contagious and the energy that the core group of volunteers are putting into the event is sure to come across in a great local event.
A Brief Overview of the Events:
The B.C. Day long weekend in Squamish is full of excitement, fun and action aimed to make every member of the family smile. It kicks off on Thursday evening with the kettle boil challenge and chili cook off at the Squamish Valley Golf Course and watch while teams of two participate in the Kettle Boil Challenge. The goal is to get your fire going and bring your kettle to the boiling point first.
Friday is all about downtown! There’s the World Championship Chair Carve, where competitors must race against the clock, and their opponents, to carve the best chair. This is followed by one of the local favourite events: Squamish Days Bed Races. So what is a bed race? It consists of a bed on wheels with a 5 person team navigating a 2-block course filled with obstacles and challenges. The team that gets their bed across the line first wins. This is one fun and wacky event you don’t want to miss.
Saturday starts with the kids festival O’Siyam Pavilion Park, Downtown Squamish. This is fun for kids of all ages, with races, face painting, bouncy castles, bubble station, bean bag toss, mini golf, balloon art and much more. If you have kids, they will love this event. The novice sports show starts at the festival grounds, cheer the competitors on to victory and the next round of competition. You won’t want to miss the AXE THROW INVITATIONAL at chances casino which is followed by the world famous loggers stomp dance.
Sunday is another fun-filled day starting with the THE PETER HARRIS LOGGER’S PANCAKE BREAKFAST, the parade and then the WORLD-CLASS OPEN LOGGERS SPORTS SHOW at the festival grounds.
Monday wraps up with PICNIC AT THE PAVILION. You will enjoy some great music, refreshments, food vendors, and more! The day starts with a free yoga class at 11am followed by an afternoon of great local bands. Bring your picnic blanket, appetite and enjoy a chilled out day at the park.
Have a look at the event calendar and make sure you clear your BC long weekend schedule to enjoy some of these wicked fun community events.
