Last week we had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from the Lower mainland for a class field trip Educational Adventure in Squamish BC. The day started at Sunwolf in beautiful Brackendale, located on just outside of Squamish on the way to Paradise Valley in a riverside wilderness setting. The students and teachers had a chance to walk along the Cheakamus River and enjoy the mountain views from the stunning property.
The first group fueled up on homemade muffins and snacks and quickly departed on a Wilderness Educational Float down the calm Cheakamus river. The wilderness float taught them about the different salmon species that spawn here and the overwintering eagles that depend on them for their survival.
The students floated past a traditional Coast Salish Big house and learned about the different roles families groups played: fishing, weaving, plant gathering and chopping firewood with stone, bone, wooden and rock tools.
After the river float, the group headed out to explore majestic Squamish Valley Via Horseback. This was a chance for the students to face some fears and challenge themselves with a new experience. Part of the group headed out for a guided nature walk to explore the ecology & wildlife of Squamish Valley.
Fuel up your day with a freshly-baked muffin and juice or hot chocolate before heading out on your adventure. Regroup to share your experiences over lunch. Enjoy a delicious meal prepared by our chef from locally-sourced ingredients before heading out for another adventure.
