Meet Local Squamish Artist – Andy Anissimoff

You can probably recognize Andy’s work from around town. He has been a Local Squamish Artist, and Sea to Sky resident for the last 10 years and has built his creative style around painting gorgeous landscapes and striking wildlife in and around Squamish.

What would you describe your style as?

I think you could classify my style in a few ways, I paint Canadian landscapes which would definitely be one classification, but I would have to say interpretive realism. My focus is to paint in a way that makes my work as strong visually from across the room as they are up close.

What made you choose Squamish?

Having more at the end of the day. The location is perfect between the mountains and the city it is everything I need in terms of lifestyle and work.

How does the Sea to Sky inspire your work?

Being right in nature. Around every corner is a fresh new scene and dramatic location. You can go almost anywhere and be inspired to paint. There is no end to inspiration around here I can paint the same scene over and over again and it will always be changing and different. The unique lighting and weather changes always keep this place intriguing to me.

What Are Your Favourite Squamish Adventures?

The thing I love about this town is that there is no end to exploring and getting outside. I spend my free time mountain biking, dirtbiking, playing hockey and golfing. In the winter I’m in the mountains every chance I get snowboarding or riding my snowmobile.
