Do it Yourself Protein Bars
Having a balanced snack that provides around 10-20g of protein within 30 minutes after exercising will help with muscle recovery and gain. Protein bars are a great, convenient way to achieve this goal and they are so easy to make at home. All of these ingredients and more can be found at Nesters Market.
Chocolate Raspberry Protein Truffles
- 1 cup quick oats
- 4 scoops vanilla protein powder (your choice, I use NZ Vanilla Whey)
- 4 tbsp raw cacoa powder
- 4 tbsp raspberry jam
- 3 tbsp hemp seeds
- 4 tbsp nut butter
- 1-4 tbsp milk of choice (I use original almond)
Mix dry ingredients together, mix through jam and nut butter (use a fork for this until all ingredients look ‘wet’).
Add a small amount of milk at a time and continue mixing until it resembles a ball of dough.
Press the mixture into a cake tin (lined with cling-wrap) and sprinkle with some chopped lightly salted peanuts, press nuts down so that they stick into the mixture. Allow to set in the fridge for at least and hour. Cut into 8 bars. Keep covered in the fridge for up to a week. Alternatively, form into small balls (makes 24) and roll in coconut or chopped peanuts.
