Bikram yoga is a beginner series of twenty-six Hatha yoga postures and two breathing techniques, intelligently designed to stretch and strengthen the entire body.
The room is heated to 40 degrees Celsius and this heat is used as a tool to provide a challenging, invigorating, cleansing, and therapeutic class. The heat aids in blood circulation, increases the cardiovascular and respiratory benefits of the postures, and serves as a safety mechanism by ensuring that the body is sufficiently “warmed up” before engaging in the practice.
This class offers a series of postures suitable for all levels and serves as a foundation for asana practice.
Please come hydrated and ready to sweat!
Vinyasa is literally translated from Sanskrit as meaning to ‘place in a special way.’
This practice is based on movement and breath, with most postures flowing seamlessly from one to the next. The breath is an essential component in this class as it establishes the flow between postures and builds heat within the body.
This class is derivative of traditional Ashtanga/Vinyasa yoga and is suitable for most levels.
As with all methods of yoga asana, the overall objective of Yin yoga is healing. However, in Yin yoga, the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice is directed deeper than the superficial or muscular tissues (yang tissues). Instead, Yin yoga targets the connective tissues, fascia, ligaments, and bones. This practice can also drastically transform one’s internal experience through its meditative elements, which focus on the energetic body and mental state.
Suitable for almost all levels of student, Yin yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga, which emphasize internal heat and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles.
This practice can make for a wonderful precursor to meditation, or simply sitting still. In the class, we will also expand our exploration of various breathing techniques (pranayama).
Our Hatha Yoga classes are a blend of static and flowing postures.
This form of yoga focuses on simple postures that flow from one to the other at a very comfortable pace; wonderful for the beginner student, or an experienced practitioner seeking a more relaxed class.
It will have a freestyle form of teaching that follows the students energies and needs, and will change with the weather, seasons, and time of day.
