Part of the Through The Lens Squamish Arts Council Film Series
SEEDING A NEW GENRE in cinematography, this two hour program of speculative short films envision new futures for Canada through Afrofuturist and Indigenous perspectives. Hosted and curated by Whistler filmmaker tobias c. van Veen (dir. Lost Alien), the evening also features a Q&A with Vancouver-based filmmaker Brishkay Ahmed (dir. Aryana Resurrected). Commissioned by documentary film organisation Cinema Politica and the Canada Council for the Arts, Documentary Futurism explores the question: how do you document futures that have not yet happened?
Don’t miss these exciting science fictional short films that envision the future of Canada over the next 150 years. With the support of our host and partner, The Common, at 7pm.
Info on the films:
The Squamish Arts Council is pleased to present ”Through the Lens”, our first Film Series happening in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), BC. This series is intended to offer windows to different perspectives through film. The youth voice is powerful, and in response to their answers in the Youth Engagement Survey 2018, we are working to find innovative ways to bring film to our community.
This event is graciously funded by the BC Arts Council and is free to all youth under 25, and by a minimum $10 donation for everyone else. Join us for this open-air film screening— all are welcome to attend so reserve your spot now!
Thanks to our partners The Common & Cinema Politica.
