Dining with the Eagles at The Watershed Grill

Is there any other bird in the world as majestic as the eagle? The impressive raptors are considered the crown jewel for bird watchers and from December to March the extraordinary birds winter in the Squamish, British Columbia region. The area is home to the largest population of Bald Eagles in the world.

When to see the Eagles in the Squamish Region

The Bald Eagles flock to the Squamish and Cheakamus Rivers to feast on the spawning salmon. Typically, the first birds make their appearance in early November. They often stay as late as March. Their population usually peaks in December and January. To view the birds in their natural habitat, you can visit the Brackendale Eagles Park Reserve.The Reserve sits on 755 hectares and is located along the west side of the Squamish River. The main viewing area is located at the Eagle Run Park which sits on Government Road in Brackendale. Many people also opt to take a guided boat ride on the cheakamus river to get up close and personal with the birds.

Dine at the WaterShed Grill to See the Eagles Up Close

Another option to see the eagles closely is to dine at the WaterShed Grill which is also located on Government Road. The restaurant sits right on the dyke and has a patio that allows visitors to sit outside and partake of truly unparalleled views of the impressive birds while they dine. The WaterShed offers traditional Canadian eats. They are famous for their Caesar salad and have won rave reviews for the tasty fresh concoction. They also have delectable chicken wings, which make an ideal appetizer. Their dishes are always fresh and hormone-free. The salmon burger is another must-try favourite. Their menu is diverse and filled with healthy food choices that are sure to titillate your appetite. There is also a kids menu for little ones.

During the winter months, being the premier location to dine with the eagles, the WaterShed fills up fast. Although they don’t take reservations, you might want to arrive early or let them know if you are coming with a large group. This will help to get the prime window seating.  Remember to wear warm clothing if you opt to brave the weather and sit on the patio because it is normally very cold from November to March. The WaterShed is located at 41101 Government Road/Meadowvale Drive in Brackendale. Their hours of operation are from 10 am to 11 pm daily. They do serve a very popular brunch every weekend. There are also occasional wine events, live music, and other special events that always attract a crowd.
